Processing order of study grants applications

The processing order of files is based on family income. The lower that income, the faster your file will be processed.

Lowest family incomes first

Files with the lowest income are processed first. The lower your family income, the faster your file will be processed. If you do not yet see a processing date in the e-portal, your file has not yet been processed.

Where can the income for the calculation be found?

As a basis, the tax assessment notice of the person predicted as the maintenance provider in your file is used. More information on looking up family income for calculating your study grant: Gezinsinkomen opzoeken voor de berekening van je studietoelage (in Dutch).

The Study Grants Division will compile a reference income based on the assessment notice, but other incomes will also be included. To find out what the reference income for the study grant consists of, read the web page on reference income: Referentie-inkomen (in Dutch).

Automatic and manual processing of files

Almost half of all files are processed fully automatically, others require more research by a file handler. This may also be why your brother, sister or friend received a decision earlier.

Adjustment of processing time in the e-portal

Processing times are updated monthly in the e-portal based on the capacity available to process files.

Processing order after you have already started a file

You already received an amount

Priority is given to students who did not yet receive a study grant, so that they already have certainty about the tuition fees they have to pay. That is why your file is processed a little later if you have already received an amount. When the Study Grants Division finalises your file can be found in the e-portal(opens in new window).

You have sent additional information

In this case, too, priority is given to students who have not yet received a study grant. However, the quicker you answer the questions sent to you by the Study Grants Division, the quicker the extra information in your file will be processed. When the extra information in your file will be processed can also be found in the e-portal(opens in new window).

Can't wait for your study grant?

If so, be sure to apply for an advance from your educational institution’s Student Services Department. More information on advances : Voorschot door Studentenvoorzieningen (in Dutch).
